Facts about dogs you may not know

You’re probably aware of this fact, but over 95% of pet owners consider their pets part of the family. Among all pets, dogs remain most people’s favorites. Their playful personalities, cute appearance, and loyalty are the things everyone loves. If you are reading this, you are probably a fellow dog lover. That’s why we designed this infographic that contains the most interesting facts about dogs and posted it right below for you. We singled out a few that we found amusing.

Dogs have heightened senses. While humans have just about 400 receptors in their noses, dogs have around 300 million. That’s what helps them trace other dogs and animals in their surroundings, smell food from large distances, etc. Also, their eyes have a layer of tissue called tapetum lucidum, which allows them to see in the dark.

Their ears are incredibly powerful. A dog’s sense of hearing is more than 10 times stronger than ours. They can detect frequencies of 30,000 times per second, which often comes in handy for them. As amazing as this seems, louder sounds can hurt their ears, so remember to do as much as possible to keep your dog safe.

On the other hand, dogs have a reduced sense of taste. On average, they have some 1,700 taste buds, while humans have roughly 9,000. It’s known that dogs like to munch on pretty much everything, but it’s still imperative to keep them away from harmful foods and make sure that they eat quality kibble.

Dog owners generally live healthier lives than non-pet owners. Firstly, those who have their fluffy companions by their side typically have lower blood pressure than people who don’t own a dog.

Secondly, due to their beautiful personalities and unconditional love they feel for their owners, it’s proven that dogs help us relieve stress, overcome depression, and regulate mood swings. Having a dog as a pet increases the production of oxytocin, which is also called the “love hormone.”

Finally, talking to your pup might sound crazy, but don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Also, if you take your dog for a walk, the chances are that other people will try to start a conversation much more than usual.
