Asheville Youth Choirs (AYC) audition announcement

The Asheville Youth Choirs (AYC) are community choirs open to grades K-12. AYC includes the High School Chorale (grades 9-12), the Middle School Chorale (grades 7-8), the Concert Choir (grades 3-6) and the Prelude Choir (grades K-2). Students from both city and county public schools, private schools, charter schools and home schools come together to form these wonderful choirs. AYC sing in area churches, civic functions, seasonal concerts, and summer tours. These choirs are community ensembles offering the opportunity for children and teenagers to come together to traverse the false boundaries of school choice, race, family structure, and socio-economic status to create beauty and friendship, thereby making a more connected, kinder community.

2018-19 Activities of AYC include:

  • HS Chorale presents Part 1 of Handel’s Messiah (including the Hallelujah Chorus) with Orchestra.
  • MS Chorale, Concert Choir and Prelude choir present a magical holiday concert.
  • A mid winter weekend retreat and mini tour.
  • Presentation of the National Anthem at So- Con Basketball Championship in the Civic Center and at Asheville Tourists Game in Memorial Stadium.
  • A two day music video film shoot on the Blue Ridge Parkway!

The Asheville Youth Choirs will enjoy a fantastic year this next season! The opportunities to make music with the finest orchestral players in the region, to collaborate with professional moviemakers in creating an exciting music video, and to make great friendships through the joy of singing will all combine to create an unforgettable experience. The audition to be a part of all of this is a simple five minute “vocal interview” in which students will be asked to sing an unaccompanied song of their choice and to demonstrate vocal range and ability through a series of vocal exercises. The auditions will be held at the Academy for the Arts at First Baptist Church of Asheville, 5 Oak Street in downtown. The dates are either August 23rd or August 30th from 4pm to 6pm. Sign up for a time by going to ashevilleyouthchoirs.org. Additional information, photos and videos of AYC performances can also be found on the website.
