Three Creative Jobs That Are In High Demand

Are you a creative person who is looking for a career which will allow you to make the most of your skills and experience while still getting paid? There are a number of careers with a shortage of suitably qualified applicants, and some of those are in creative fields. Let’s take a look at three of the best creative jobs which are currently in very high demand nationwide.

Cartography

Cartography may not be a career path that you’ve ever considered, however it is a sector which has a serious shortage of qualified applicants. It’s also a very creative job choice for anyone with artistic skills.

Cartographers take data from several sources and use it to create maps. There are several kinds of cartographer. One type is a photogrammetrist, who uses aerial photographs and satellite images to make maps. The maps that cartographers produce can also be used for several reasons. Some are general geographic maps for travellers while other show weather patterns, terrain types, population densities or several other features. While a lot of the work today is now computerized, it’s still vital to have artistic skills and creative eyes to produce high-quality maps.

If you’re interested in becoming a cartographer, you’ll usually need to study for a 4 year degree in cartography, geomatics, geography, surveying or engineering. By 2020, it is predicted that there will be a massive 22% increase in demand for cartographers, so it’s clear that there is a lot of potential for anyone who is interested in entering this field. Even better, the median yearly salary for people working in this industry comes in at around $55,000, making it a very lucrative career path.

Architecture

You may not have thought of the architectural industry as being a creative career path, however it requires just as much artistic skills as a number of other traditional creative roles. Architects employ practical and artistic skills to design new structures and buildings and to design and plan renovations and additions to existing buildings. There is a world of opportunity in the architecture field. Some architects choose specialize in certain areas. Some prefer to help families to design their perfect private dwelling, while others prefer to focus on complexes, resorts, retail structures or schools.

To become an architect, you need to go to college to study for either a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in architecture. After graduating, you will then need to get an internship so you can gain valuable work experience while working towards taking the Architect Registration Examination. This is a required test for architects in every state and is a prerequisite if you want to obtain the necessary license to be a practising architect in the USA. As it has been predicted that there will be a 24% increase in demand for qualified architects nationwide by 2020, it’s clear that this is also a very attractive career path, especially when you bear in mind that the average yearly salary is as high as $73,000.

Exhibit And Set Designers

If you’ve always dreamed of a creative career in the theatrical arts, why not become an exhibit and set designer?

Set designers are employed within the theater, video and motion picture industries, making the necessary sets for productions. Exhibit designers, on the other hand, work for museums to design and create panoramas, exhibits and displays. The same artistic skills are necessary for both paths and both are very hands-on roles. Knowing how to operate the latest must-have tool and knowing how to physically put items together is vital in this profession, but there is a lot of demand, with an expected growth rate of 10% by 2020, rising to 17% for those working in museums and 27% for those with specialist skills.

While some roles do require the applicants to have a bachelor’s degree in set design or theater, it’s often possible to enter this industry if you have related experience like acting. The median yearly salary for set designers and exhibit designers is around $47,000, making it another lucrative career path for any budding artist with creative skills who wants to find a job that truly fits with their passions.
